My own personal observations of the past week’s events dealing with Hurricane Irene, in the form of “Hey’s” and Nay’s. If you have any of your own, please write them in the comment section below.
Hey: To the Fire, Police and Public Works Departments for not only risking there well-being, but leaving their families and homes behind to help others.
Nay: To UI management for poor planning to deal with a storm of this magnitude.
Hey: To UI workers, outside contractors and line crews from out of state for working long hours to get electricity restored as soon as possible.
Nay: To UI for providing poor communication to it’s customers.
Hey: To CT Governor Daniel Malloy for providing a steady stream of information before, during and after Irene. His pre-storm warnings were direct and to-the-point, without any sugar coating. Additionally, he made a personal visit to Fairfield, seeing for himself how extensive the damage is in town.
Hey: To Washington for approving Gov. Malloy’s pre-storm application for Disaster Relief funds.
Nay: To the news organizations for sending out lengthy tweets that were impossible to retweet (ok, first-world-problem).
Hey: To the news organizations for holding the utility companies’ accountable for better communication.
Hey: To Cox Communications for pulling together the combined listener base of 95.9 The Fox, 99.1 PLR and Star 99.9 to provide simultaneous coverage of the Irene aftermath, keeping people informed and giving people an outlet to tell their stories and rant.
Nay: To the lady who called WICC Monday whining she had no power and couldn’t run her air conditioning.
Nay: To the people who went out for a walk after the rain had stopped, but the Tropical Storm force winds had not (full-disclosure: I was one of them). It was still very dangerous.
Hey: To Fairfielders exemplifying what this town is all about. I witnessed so many random acts of kindness, generosity and gratitude, it would be difficult to list them all. Thank you!

I thought UI did an outstanding job compared to CL&P who would not let their workers go into work on the weekend because they didnt want to pay them OT. Plus all the good Malloy did for the storm cant make up for how royally he is screwing Connecticut and its residents in more ways than one.
