Occasionally I am going to talk about something that has no relevance to Fairfield, for better or worse.
June 15th: Apple begins taking preorders for the iPhone 4. Preorders placed on this day are promised to be shipped for arrival on June 24th. I started to place an order around 10:00am. The result was “order cannot be processed at this time”. I spent the next 15 minutes trying to get the order through. Nope, nope, nope….:( I waited until later in the afternoon. After a dozen or so attempts I was still unable to complete an order. Some attempts took me further along the process, even getting me to enter information to initiate a new mobile service agreement with AT&T. But with AT&T I would get some type of time out message, even though no unusual amount of time passed. Around 7:00pm EST I was able to finally get completely through Apple’s and AT&T’s systems. Order placed! Apple order confirmation received via email for my new Black 32GB iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4 dock (extra charge).
As buzz builds about the iPhone 4, I am anxious to receive my new mobile device on June 24th. I check the order every few days or so. Both items say they will be delivered on June 24th.
June 24th: A busy day for me, so I didn’t check order status until late in the day. My iPhone 4 dock has shipped from SHENZHEN CN (where?). A quick google search tells me this is China? Huh? How is this supposed to get to me today? And there is no tracking info for the iPhone, however the Apple online order says the iPhone 4 “Delivers June 24″, nice. But, there is another line and it says “Ships: 1-5 Business Days.” After the FEDEX delivery time comes and goes I place a call to Apple. I sit on hold for 25 minutes before I speak to a gentleman who says due to the influx of orders for the iPhone 4, there are some orders still in the warehouse and it should ship next week. Expect the iPhone 4 by end of next week, July 2nd.
June 28th: Apple announces 1.7million iPhone 4′s have sold in the first 3 days. Sorry boys, that’s 1,699,999 iPhone 4′s. Mine is still in China. Steve Jobs is announcing from the mountaintops “This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history.”
June 30th: I receive my iPhone 4 dock. Apple is mocking me.
The saga continues in Part 2 coming up Friday.
