This past Saturday morning, Burroughs Community Center of Bridgeport held their annual “Freezin’ for a Reason” at Jennings Beach. On a bright, sunny morning 125 plungers, including Congressman Jim Himes jumped into the 43 degree water and splashed around. About 200 well-wishers waited for them on beach, where it was a cold 33 degrees.

The event raised over $50,000 for the Community Center, “a fantastic amount” said Kevin Simmons, Burroughs Executive Director. The top fundraisers were Fairfield residents Red Fabbri, Kevin Mulrenan, Kait Herman,Black Rockers Jack Collins and Charlie Gulotta, Wilton’s Frank Duemmler, Weston’s Mike Steinharter, Weston High School Boys Soccer Team, youngest plungers Megan and Brian Simmons and JB Brown. All funds raised will support the programs offered at Burroughs for children and families in Bridgeport’s West End.
The event was followed by an after party at the Gaelic American Center on Beach Road in Fairfield.
