Play with Your Food audiences so enjoyed Michael McKeever’s comic American Gothic in January that another of the prolific playwright’s short works, Knowing Best, will be featured on Tuesday March 9 at the Fairfield Theatre Company from 12 noon to 1:30 pm.
The third program of this monthly lunchtime theatre series begins at 12 noon with a sandwich and salad buffet in the FTC Warehouse catered by Southport’s popular Spic and Span Market. “Everyone has such a good time at lunch,” commented Nancy Diamond, PWYF’s Producer. “It gives friends a chance to catch up, share gossip, and relax before the show.”
Following lunch, at 12:30pm, Play With Your Food will present three short plays read by professional actors on FTC’s Stage One. McKeever’s Knowing Best is an off-kilter, skewed look at the hoops a mother jumps through to keep up with her loving, indecisive daughter. A South Florida resident, McKeever is known for infusing wit, insight and a healthy dose of quirky humor in his exploration of human relationships. Next up is A Minuet, a classic, charming, and funny play, written in verse in 1914 by one of the most popular playwrights of the last century, Louis N. Parker.
Young Michal Lew, resident playwright at NYC’s Ensemble Studio Theatre, contributes Tenure to the program. This funny and literate play, with antics and bad behavior, addresses questions about behaving like a grown up. ‘Is it overrated? Is it worth it? and why should I grow up when I’m having so much fun?” Lew is known to PYWF audiences from his piece, In Paris, You Will Find Many Baguettes but Only One True Love, featured during the 2009 season. The program concludes with a short discussion among the actors and director and the audience before wrapping up promptly at 1:30 pm.
“All in all,” said Artistic Director Carole Schweid, “March’s program should provide a welcome lift from the dreary days of winter. We like to give our audience something compelling to think about…but we all love a good laugh, and that’s really what we’re going for these days.”
