House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden) has appointed Rep. Kim Fawcett (D-Fairfield) to the General Assembly’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee.
Speaker Donovan made the appointment after reviewing committee assignments and deciding that she would be a valuable addition to the committee. “I am certain you will make an important contribution to the legislative process as a member of this important committee,” he said.
Rep. Fawcett said the new assignment presented an opportunity to advocate on behalf of people seeking higher education in Connecticut.
“I hear from constituents on a regular basis who urge me to protect and invest in Connecticut’s colleges and universities,” Rep. Fawcett said. “I believe that if we strengthen our higher education system we will expand our workforce and Connecticut wins.”
The committee, which is chaired by Sen. Mary Ann Handley (D-Manchester) and Rep. Roberta Willis (D-Salisbury), oversees matters relating to public and independent colleges and universities, the Department of Higher Education, the Board of Governors of Higher Education, post-secondary education and job training institutions and programs, apprenticeship training programs, adult job training programs offered to the public and the Office of Workforce Competitiveness.
Rep. Fawcett represents the 133rd Assembly District, which includes Fairfield and Westport. She also serves on the Appropriations and Transportation committees.
