There’s a saying out there that speaks to my living here in Fairfield, CT. ‘Every Rebel comes home to roost.’ My wife and I lived in the city. We lived in Manhattan when we got married and we thought we were going to settle in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn. We looked at places there for a few months until, one Saturday, we got frustrated, hopped in the car and, next thing we knew, we were looking at homes out here. We started out looking in Norwalk. We even made a few offers on places, but we ended up buying a Cape in Southport. It was perfect for us. We both worked in the city and could walk to the train station.
When people asked me what drew me here, there were a few things. I liked the fact that we were on Long Island Sound. I liked that there was a decent mix of people from a socioeconomic standpoint. I like the fact that our daughter is friends with children whose parents are all over the map from the standpoint of what they do for a living. It means more to me as the years pass and it means quite a bit to me as a Realtor. Think about it. You can spend your life living in Fairfield without having to move. Starting out? Buy a Cape. There are plenty of them here. Family getting bigger? Career taking off? Win the Lottery? There are all sorts of choices that DON’T involve moving to another town. You can do it all, and you can do it all here.
Want a fancy restaurant? We got ‘em. Hot dogs? Got places for that, too. Public schools? They’re outstanding. Private schools? That’s a choice, too. Want a place with a bigger yard? How about a smaller yard that you don’t need to worry about? We probably have a little bit of whatever you’re looking for.
Fairfield, CT is a big town with a small town feel. It’s a town with different and interesting neighborhoods that each have their own flavor to them. It’s a town with exquisitely elegant and fancy homes as well as humble abodes. It’s a town with much variety. Variety usually means options, and I like options.
I love this town for all of the above reasons. Is it a perfect town? No. The streets get pretty crowded at times. Taxes have been going up, but hasn’t that been happening everywhere?
I’ll end this with one last saying. ‘Water finds its own level.’ Wherever you are in your life, if you’re thinking of buying a place, there’s a place in Fairfield waiting for you.
