Real Estate, Hopes and Dreams. Thoughts on Buying, Selling and Living in Fairfield, CT

Ok, so I’m back to the list that I began months ago and got pulled away from and it feels funny talking about beaches in the beginning of December, but have you been to the beach in December?  If you haven’t, give it a try!  The wind feels a bit stronger and you can smell the water, for some reason, better, and, to me, anyway, it smells good.  Seagulls walk the beach like they own the place and follow you around, hoping you’ll give them some food.

Anyway, there are FIVE beaches in Fairfield.  That’s right.  Five!  Oh, and, by the way, there’s also a lake with trails around it if you’re looking for something different.    The beaches are different, too and do a good job of suiting whatever mood you may be in when you decide to go to the beach.  Interested in being a part of humanity and doing some people watching?  Penfield is probably the beach for you.  It’s closest to the center of town.  It has a pavillion and a decent snack bar and seems to be full of people.  I’d lump Jennings Beach into the same category though I can’t say I’m an expert on the place.  Penfield is where I tend to take the family.  Going there is a bit of an event and you never know who you’re going to meet there.  I kind of like this.  And you can get a burger and a coke if you want to.  As you can at Jennings.

If you’re looking for beaches that are a bit more subdued, you can to to Sasco beach.  It’s sort of a happy medium between crowded and fun and private.  Southport Beach is along the same lines though it’s right on the main road along the water that goes into Westport, which makes you feel less isolated.  When we first moved here, Southport beach annoyed me.  It seemed like the water was always knee deep.  Unless the tide was really high, I couldn’t count on getting a good swim in, but a friend of mine told me it was where he took his kids.  When we became parents, it all made sense.  There was plenty of mud to play in, to hunt fiddler crabs and to skip rocks out into the water.

I’ve never been to South Pine Creek beach.  It’s small and very secluded, but, next time I’m in the mood for that, I’m there.  I don’t know if I can see my daughter enjoying it as much, though.  Like I said.  It’s quiet.

If you’re looking for a different venue but still want water, there’s still Lake Mohegan, which is in the Fairfield Woods section of town, toward the Merrit Parkway.  Lake Mohegan is quiet, with a small beach, but there are trails around it if you feel like going for a walk.  There’s also a mini water park if you want to do something different and the kids love it.

You could live here in Fairfield for years and never make it to all of the beaches, kind of like me, but this is a nice problem.   The important thing to remember is that they’re here and there is a variety of them!

Tomorrow, #4!
