H1N1 Influenza Vaccine Update for Fairfield and Easton Residents
The Fairfield Health Department expects to receive one or more small shipments of injectable H1N1 vaccine over the next week. We will be having an H1N1 clinic in Fairfield on Thursday, December 3rd from 3pm to 6pm. The varied brands of injectable vaccine we have the possibility of receiving are licensed for different ages (ex. 6 months and older, 4 years and older, 18 years and older); please be certain to enter the ages of those you are registering. Not all household members may be eligible based upon the licensure of the vaccine we receive. To be eligible to be vaccinated with injectable vaccine, the household member(s) you are registering, must fall within one of the following priority populations and not have any specific medical conditions.
Only a limited number of doses are available and appointments will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Those registering will receive a confirmation via email that they have been given an appointment; the email will also include the clinic location. Confirmation emails will go out at the end of business each day next Monday – Wednesday. Only those who receive an email confirmation indicating they have an appointment are eligible for vaccination. No walk-ins will be allowed.
Pre screening questions to determine if you or household members are eligible to receive the H1N1 inactivated injectable vaccine:
At this time, according to the Center for Disease Control, the following priority populations can receive the H1N1 injectable vaccine. Look at the list below to determine eligibility:
- Pregnant women
- Household contacts and caregivers of infants less than 6 months of age
- All children aged 6 months through 83 months (age 6 months through 6 years)
- All persons age 7 through 64 years with one or more of the following high risk medical conditions: asthma, blood disorder, cancer, heart disease, immune disorder, kidney disease, liver disease, lung disease or a neurological disease.
- Healthcare workers and Emergency Medical Services personnel who have direct contact with patients or infectious material. The supply of vaccine is not yet sufficient to offer vaccine to all health care workers who have direct patient care contact. Priority will be given to health care workers who have direct patient care contact with children.
If you are NOT in one of the above priority populations, you cannot receive the vaccine at this time.
If you ARE in a priority population listed above, check to see if you have any of the medical conditions listed below. If you do, you are NOT eligible to receive the vaccine at this time.
Medical Conditions that cannot receive H1N1 injectable vaccine
- Have a serious allergy to eggs, chicken proteins, thimerisol or gelatin?
- Have had a serious reaction to a previous dose of flu vaccine?
- Have had Guillain-Barre syndrome (a type of temporary severe muscle weakness) within 6 weeks after receiving a flu vaccine?
- On the day the vaccine is to be given, you can not be sick with a fever.
If you ARE in a priority population and answered “NO” to all of the above questions, then you are eligible to receive the vaccine. Please click on the link below to register for an appointment for H1N1 injectable vaccination.
