Is it me or are there a TON of places to get Pizza here in Fairfield? No matter where you live, there’s a Pizza place close by. And the variety of different types of pizza is pretty wide. Many of them deliver, and just as many are places where you can sit down and eat or pick up and take home.
When we first moved to Southport, we started out going to Mike’s Pizza, which is right in the center of town. After that, we went through a phase where we got our pizza from Avellino, which is close to Rawley’s a bit further out on the Post Road. I liked Avellino’s Spinach Pizza but found the crust a bit soggy. When somebody suggested The Nauti Dolphin, we were hooked on their pizza for a while. I particularly liked their Margarita pizza. It was tasty but light. Just before we moved, we started to go to Southport Pizza, which is right in Southport Center. Thin Crust. Old school. You can go there and order a slice and a coke, look out the window and watch the world go by.
When we moved to Stratfield, we discovered the pizza places on the other side of town. We started with Maiones, which seems to have a knack for Sausage and Pepper Pizza. We then tried out Pizza Palace but found the pizza a bit too doughy for my tastes. I went through a Pizzeria Uno phase. They serve a Cheeseburger Pizza that’s delicious and partly responsible for the thirty or so pounds that I put on. The bar is also comfortable so it’s a great excuse to have a beer and tell your wife that the pizza took a while. Oops. Did I say that?
Our latest choice is Stefano’s Pizza. They seem to have a good combination of a good crust, sauce and toppings. They don’t undercook or overcook. Before our current trend, we were regulars at Pizza Mediterranian, where they serve a GREAT BBQ Chicken Pizza. Pizza Mediterranian is great, maybe the best, if you’re having a group of people over and want to order in. They get the pizza to you fast and the guy that delivers always seems to be pleasant. Once in a while, they even give you an extra pizza.
Pepe’s Pizza recently came to town. They are outstanding as everybody thought they’d be but they don’t deliver. An old standard, Luigi’s Pizza, still serves great classic pizza and has been an institution for a few generations.
I”m in New Hampshire as I write this. On Saturday, I attended the ‘Rockin Ribfest.’ It was quite an event, with local merchants, restaurants and bands creating a great environment and drawing people from all over the state. I took the whole thing in and wondered whether there might be some sort of pizzafest in Fairfield’s future. There are enough places and who doesn’t like to compare different slices?
Hmmm……
By the way, if I forgot about any places, let me know

Luigis is the best. You missed Pizza Post down by Kohl’s, always a safe bet! I’ll have to try the others you mentioned.
You have to try Pizza Med!!! I lived in Brooklyn for a few years this is the closest to NY Pizza. If you like Slician(square) they are the best outside of NY!
Maione’s Maione’s Maione’s Maione’s Maione’s!!!!
