Trends in recruiting

Good news is finally happening in the executive search world! Execunet, a leading executive talent firm, states that “executive recruiters who earlier this spring had a much more negative outlook are now clearly seeing signs of new management hiring by their client companies, amid signs that economic conditions have stabilized and more companies are looking to the future.” Even my own executive search clients are starting to talk about increasing their hiring by end of summer and early fall.As I wrote on my blog posting on May 27th, it is imperative to be well networked especially on the Internet. What other trends should job seekers be aware of. One valuable site worth reviewing is www.recruitingtrends.com from Kennedy Publications (the publisher of various recruiting publications including The Directory of Executive Recruiters).Others include www.twine.com and www.resumebear.com.Another source for trends is an article that I wrote for my web-site, www.carterconsultantsltd.com.As I mention in the article, it is still unfortunate but companies are taking a lot longer in making recruiting decisions. There is a positive in that although the “dating phase” is longer and there are more players involved (some have interviewed with up to 10 people!), the “marriage” seems to be a much better fit for both the candidate and the hiring company. Patience is key which is frustrating I realize for those unemployed. Network, network, network.I will write more on that in the next few weeks but in the meantime, further develop your Linkedin profile, attend career workshops and networking events (a free one in Stamford next Wed., June 17th is at Beth El – http://www.tbe.org/site/pages/events/2009/networking_seminar.htm) and get the word out that you are in the job market.
