Monday’s Job Search Hint #5 – Take stock of who you are

Ok, it’s been a while since i’ve posted a job search tip. Honestly, my own job search can fill a day. But on to the tip:

Take stock of who you are.
Sounds simple doesn’t it? But how many of us are doing the things we are most passionate about? When you do work you are passionate about, it’s only natural you will excel at it. And excelling at work is crucial to keeping work in challenging job markets. Today’s economy dictates, more than ever, the need to be doing work that fulfills us beyond a paycheck.

To find what you are most passionate about, you need to start with yourself and determine who you are. There are countless websites with self-assessment tools. Also there is the classic book “What Color is Your Parachute” by Richard Bolles. However the best approach to taking inventory of yourself is to meet with someone trained in assessing people, their passions and their skills.

On May 16, 2009, Carter Consultants Ltd. in Fairfield is holding a workshop on taking stock of who you are and what you want.
